Rye has officially been named a Bronze Certified Climate Smart Community by New York State—recognizing nearly a decade of climate leadership and local action.

In coverage by MyRye.com, Assistant City Manager Brian Shea emphasized the milestone’s significance, noting that it “opens the door for funding opportunities related to climate change, mitigation, adaptation and planning.”

To earn certification, the City completed over 150 points worth of climate actions, including:

  • Conducting greenhouse gas inventories

  • Installing LED streetlights

  • Transitioning to electric municipal vehicles

  • Launching recycling programs and community education

This achievement sets the stage for Rye’s continued progress as it works toward Silver Certification in the coming years.
