Westchester Power

Clean Energy Made Simple

Westchester Power is a program under Sustainable Westchester, a nonprofit consortium representing nearly every city, town, and village in Westchester County. Since 2016, it has brought clean, renewable energy to over 140,000 residents and small businesses in 29 participating municipalities. Rye’s City Council voted to join the program in November 2018 and renewed its participation in July 2024. This program is vital to our clean energy transition as it promotes the demand for clean energy. Switching to clean sources of energy, such as wind and solar, helps address not only climate change but also air pollution and health.

Key Features of the program include:

  • Community Choice Aggregation (CCA): This means your municipality can select a default electricity supplier—giving you a choice beyond the local utility.

  • Fixed Rate Energy Supply: Predictable monthly energy bills help avoid the ups and downs of market pricing.

  • Cleaner Energy Options: Most participants receive electricity from renewable sources, like New York State hydropower.

  • Big Climate Impact: Participants help avoid 219,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually—the equivalent of taking 49,000 cars off the road.

  • Automatic Enrollment: It's an opt-out program, so you're automatically enrolled unless you choose otherwise—maximizing community buying power. If you ever opted out you opted out you can renroll by visiting xxxx. To double check who your provide can you see on your bill?

  • No Fees or Contracts: You can opt in, opt out, or switch supply options at any time with no penalties by contacting Con Edison.

  • Choice of Supply Options: Options may include 50–100% renewable sources or standard grid supply (which is mostly fossil fuel-based).

  • Consumer Protection: Though savings aren’t guaranteed, fixed rates help stabilize costs and protect from market fluctuations.

  • Safe & Vetted: The program is municipally approved and eliminates the need to deal with confusing third-party energy service companies (ESCOs).
